1995 Saab 900

This job included the headliner, the A-pillars, sunroof, and the various trim holding the headliner in. Overall it wasnt a difficult job, though its still a work in progress since its one of our vehicles. Times like this give us a chance to try new techniques on vehicles without risking it on a customer's piece.

The headliner board was made of 2 sheets of 1mm thick, long-strand fiberglass, sandwiching a 1mm thick foam layer. Very cheap and not really doing anything for the vehicle. Flexibility was important in installing the headliner, but not as much as you'd think. In the future I would like to add some reinforcing fiberglass to the back of the headliner for more support.

I opted to go for a hand brush method mainly due to the thickness of the board. It was flimsy and there were a lot of spots where the fiberglass showed through to the foam. I was worried that using the wire-wheel would catch underneath the fiberglass and tear it open, causing me to do a larger repair. In the end it wasn't too bad. I was able to get it bare without too much trouble.

Laying the fabric wasn't an issue either. The hardest parts were around where the A-pillars connects. Overall, it has a little bit more weight and rigidity to the structure of the board itself.

Last bit is to do the rest of the trim and sunroof. Will update with more photos as it develops.
