Why do Headliners Sag or fall apart?

Most headliners that you will see needing repair are vehicles with foam-backed materials. This is a good material to use, however the problem lies mainly on the factory assembly. Either the adhesive used to glue the material is weak, or the solid backing is too permeable, allowing moisture and heat to accelerate the process. Heat/Cold, and Dry/Humid cycles wear our the integrity of the adhesive, causing it to go limp, and not be able to hold on. In other cases, the original glue that held the fabric to the foam backing would disintegrate and just separate the two layers.

Visor Areas

The most common spots to have headliners fall apart are the fronts, near the visors. This is a pain in the butt, and can also cause safety concerns on the road if it blocks your vision. Usually the reason for this isn't the glue. It's actually due to how they cut the fabric. If its cut flush with the boards, that leaves space for it to peel, and be affected by humidity, hot air, and the windshield defroster. If its freezing, and your headliner is being blasted with defrost, or hot air (and extreme heat change) it severely damages the bonds of the foam along the edge of that headliner.

We fix the problem at the source. Your best bet is to just replace the whole lining. If you only repair a section of the rotted headliner, there's a good chance the rest will follow. What you see is just the most obvious and first-to-go parts of it. Replacing the liner is going to allow the technicians to add high-temp, high-humidity resistance adhesive, and properly wrap the fabric around the headliner, giving a more secure, mechanical bond, and preventing defrosters from ruining your view eventually.
